Making it in Esports: Samsung Morning Stars Founder, Martino Mombrini
This article is part of Gamer One’s new Making it in Esports series which interviews top industry team owners to learn more about their journey and to share the lessons they’ve learned along the way.
The following is a recent interview we had with Martino Mombrini, founder of Samsung Morning Stars.
1. What was your journey like that eventually led to owning your own team?
MM: Morning Stars was born from an idea Francesco Vitali and I had in 2017 with the Fight For Glory, a community event that reached more than 200.000 people around Italy, with the aim of having a team that could represent the project of Samsung Morning Stars from there on.
The result has been so amazing that the company has decided to continue investing until now and by expanding its horizons on multiple Esport titles with the aim of becoming one of the most renowned teams worldwide.
2. What’s an average workday look like for you?
MM: Esport is an always active and very dynamic sector, to stay behind all its continuous evolutions you need a lot of passion, perseverance and dedication.
Every day is never the same and we must be prepared to face different problems in trying to manage our teams, activities, competitions, etc from all points of view but also to go on and continue to grow at the same time.
3. What’s the most challenging part about owning your own team?
MM: We can say that it often happens to face new situations as esports is not taught anywhere, we define ourselves pioneers in this sector, for that reason every day we also learn new things that make this job unique and we know that there is still a long way ahead.
4. What advice would you have for aspiring professional gamers?
MM: The road is long and full of unexpected events, the important thing is to have a clear goal in mind and pursue it with passion.
Don’t give yourself limits and create something new, in this sector, there is still a lot of space for innovations.
5. What excites you most about the future of the esports industry?
MM: As I said, besides being a new sector and still to be discovered, the most exciting part of esports is for sure the competition. As in traditional sports, building a team, working hard, believing and when the time comes to fight for the trophy, everything becomes exciting and adrenaline. Attending a live event with your team that is fighting to win on the stage, is an incredible experience made by a plentiful mix of emotions.
