Here’s 5 Things To Know About Cyberpunk 2077 Multiplayer Mode
Welcome to Night City. If you’ve been enjoying the game since its release on December 10, then the following facts about Cyberpunk 2077 Multiplayer Mode will excite you.
This might be what saves it after bugs and over-expectation killed it a bit for the community.
Just be aware that developer CD Projekt Red took seven years (since its announcement back in 2013) to develop and design the ambitious world and single-player campaign.
So, here are the five things to know so far.
Is Cyberpunk 2077 Multiplayer?
Short answer: Not yet, but it will.
When will we have it?
Please, keep reading…
When Will Cyberpunk 2077 Multiplayer Mode Come Out
CD Projekt revealed during a Q&A call with investors that multiplayer mode wouldn’t be ready until 2022.
For now, that’s the only known information related to its release date, apart from being playable (once it comes out) in all the same base platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Google Stadia, and PC.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise, consider how large-scale open-world games needed a ridiculous amount of effort to polish before release. Developer’s common practice is to release multiplayer mode after most of the player base has enjoyed – or not – single-player.
Let’s take Rockstar Games as an example, with the Red Dead Redemption 2 Online release. They launched it in May 2019 (seven months after the main Western’s story).
And considering there’s still so much to do, Cyberpunk 2077’s multiplayer mode would take longer to make than what Rockstar did for RDR2.
What Details Have Been Released
In the first place, Cyberpunk 2077’s multiplayer will be available for free for those who own the game.
And when multiplayer does arrive, we could expect something as big as “GTA Online.”
That’s the vision that the company presented when their last earnings report came out.
Now, considering the major cash machine that GTA Online represents for Rockstar Games…
Cyberpunk 2077 will include some microtransaction system.
According to the Studio, the goal is to provide “purchasable content that feels like a fair transaction for their money.”
Also, several free updates and DLC expansions will be released for the single-player mode before the multiplayer is finally “retouched.”
How Will Cyberpunk 2077 Multiplayer Mode Be
Now, continuing with the example of Red Dead Redemption 2, the Multiplayer version of Cyberpunk 2077 shouldn’t be considered a mode but a “standalone production.”
Those are the words of Adam Kaciński himself, CEO of CDPR.
“We don’t call it modes. It’s a separate dedicated production, a big production. We think about it as a standalone product.
Obviously, it’s not entirely standalone as it comes from the universe of Cyberpunk and is very much related to the concept of single-player Cyberpunk we came up with. But from our perspective, it’s another independent production and independent team of people works on it.”
While it will use the same map, it’s planned to have exclusive missions and items.
This is a deviation from what Adam Badowski (Managing Director) said to Eurogamer back in 2013: “It will be a story-based RPG experience with amazing single-player playthroughs, but we’re going to add multiplayer features.”
I guess ideas changed throughout the whole seven years period.
And because the company hasn’t released any trailer for its multiplayer features, it’s almost impossible to see how it will be. What we have left are a few hints to guess.
Fortunately, we know that CD Projekt hired Digital Scapes (the studio behind Dying Light’s Zombie PvP mode) to help them with this “AAA” release.
This crossover suggests two things:
- Enlisting an outside team helps make it a larger project.
- It wouldn’t be a surprise to have open PvP deathmatches.
Who knows, even online races could take place as well.
Can you imagine how fun it would be to visit all Night City and the Bad Lands surrounding it with friends?
Talking about friends: We just released G1 (all-in-one platform) to know like-minded gamers.
We might even grow the first community around Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer mode.
When We Will Know More About It
The last light of hope would be set for “the first quarter of next year.” Around January 1, 2021, and the end of March 31, when hosting an earnings call to review the business’s performance.
Neither Kaciński nor the CDPR team has said more words about it.
So that’s just about everything we know about the topic.
It’s understandable, taking into account how recent the game is.
So far, the only thing left is to enjoy the main experience (or save a little more money to do so, because all the console releases mayhem left a large group without much savings).
